First, let me explain my title. When I say the little people, I don't mean actual "little people". I mean the average tax-paying person. The "regular people". The poor college kid working and paying his way through school. Or the family barely making ends meat. The type of people who would love to have an extra stimulus check to help them out.
I was watching CNN last night and they spoke of the Citigroup corporation. Now, the government just approved a $700 billion bailout, of which citigroup was given $45 billion. Yes, that's BILLION, with a B . This company just purchased a $50 Million jet!! Now what a company does with it's own money is none of my business, but that $700 billion bailout, including the $45 billion that the company received, was funded by none other than the American people. All tax paying Americans payed for that jet. I thing we should be able to fly the jet whenever we want to. Everyone should know how it feels to fly on a $50 million jet. Why not, we helped pay for it!!
I kept watching the program, and it spoke of a $25 billion governmental stimulus that President Obama was trying to get approved. The bad part comes in when the predictions for getting the stimulus approved were stated as "not likely". As in we were not likely to get the stimulus approved. Despite the fact that we can give over $700 billion to companies who have put themselves in the hot seat financially. Despite the fact that these same companies are buying $50 million jets. Despite the fact that it is the American people who actually drive the economy. Despite the fact that we are in a recession right now. Just typing this makes me angry. This country needs to get it together. Where are our priorities?
And oh yea, I almost forgot. To add insult to injury, Citigroup purchased the plane from a company called Dassault. If the brand sounds a little funny, its because its a French private jet maker. That $50 million dollars was pumped into the French economy!!! What puts the cherry on top is the company already has 2 jets worth an estimated $27 million dollars each. I guess those weren't good enough.
I don't think I'll ever understand our government. We help the rich get richer and the poor get poorer. I am very excited that Obama is in office, but we all are gonna have to help him help us! His message is right, but it takes more than one man. Thanks for listening to me blabber on!

  1. Ricky,

The lawmakers in Washington frustrate me to no end. I sympathize with you.

Do you feel better, now that you have vented your frustrations? This blog may be the perfect forum for you to go when you need to get things off your chest!

  2. I feel like you sometimes. I am also taking a early History class this semester and unfortunatly, government has always been about business and making money. We would like to think that it is about the people, and it is, but bottom line is that it was created by business and therefore must be maintained by business to stay afloat. i feel your pain :)

  4. It is our business, especially now. We or our children will have to pay for this in the future. I don't think it's fair that we should pay for corporates mistakes. They earn the big bucks because they are supposed to help the company and maximize profit, not spend it all.

I surely hope that President O'Bama can help our economy out. He may be for the little man, but it's going to be a while before the little man sees any improvements.

    Good points made there.
